THE DAY BEFORE LOCKDOWN:
A LOVE STORY
FRIDAY THE 13TH
Infamous. Unlucky. Poised for chaos.
But for Jess and Wes, Friday the 13th in March of 2020 was perhaps the luckiest day of their lives. As Wes walked into Mystique restaurant at the Encore Casino, he laid eyes on Jess for the first time and thought to himself, “Wow, who’s James’ hot friend?” As Jess turned to look at him, their eyes met, and she couldn’t help but ask herself, “Is that guy wearing a velvet sports coat?”
After staying up all night talking and eating donuts, as their friends slept only feet away, they already felt the spark. The Encore did not share their enthusiasm, kicking everyone out at 9AM and closing up shop for the next 4 months.
A GLOBAL PANDEMIC
Infamous. Unlucky. Poised for chaos.
But for Jess and Wes, it gave them the time they needed to get to know each other. What else was there to do? Jess and Wes wouldn’t let a silly little thing like a worldwide pandemic get in their way. After all, Wes was an essential worker, and Boston to New York City really isn’t that far when no one else is allowed on the road.

THE COVID HOUSING PLUMMET
Infamous. Unlucky. Poised for chaos.
But for Jess and Wes, this was a perfect opportunity to get a sick deal, pun intended, on an apartment together. So, they moved to Seaport, and then to Quincy, and finally bought a house in Scituate, where they live today (actual photograph below).
and then he popped the question…
…when she least expected it…
Wes proposed to Jess on his birthday, March 29, 2024, moments before his own birthday dinner. To say she didn’t see it coming would be an understatement. But, he certainly picked the most beautiful view in the world, on the balcony at the Fairmont in Banff, Canada. See for yourself (actual photograph below).
…and she said, “yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes”
And the rest is history.
